When adding a new stop - you can choose to add a regular stop, Hub Station or a Group Station.
What does each mean, and when should you use them?
Hub Station: A hub station is used to represent Bus terminals, train stations, subway stations, where multiple stations/platforms are within one larger station, and the larger station has exits and entrances.
Group Station: This is used when we have several stops in the editor that come from different projects, but are in reality there is only one stop. This can especially happen in cases where we have community and official data in one area. In order to more correctly show the reality, we group these stations together.
It is important to choose when to use Hub Station and Group Station
If Hub Stations are used instead of Group Station, we will be adding extra inaccurate walking times in the Moovit App.
How to add a Hub Station:
- Select Hub Station
- Provide Name for your Hub Station
- Define Transit Type
Define Size Type - this defines the size of the hub station, and Moovit will use pre-set walking times based on the size:
-Small: 60 second walking time from entrance to the Station
-Medium: 180 second walking time from entrance to the Station
-Large: 300 second walking time from entrance to the Station
Add Stops and Platforms to your Hub Station
-Left-click on the station to add it to your Hub Station
- Edit Platforms or stops if needed - you can unlink, view location on map, or edit the stop
Add Entrance/exits
-Click “Add Entrance/Exit”
-Left-click on map to place the entrance/exit
When placing the entrance/exit - it is super important to use the Permissions layer, so the entrance is placed in a location that riders can walk to see below for full explanation.
-Provide Name for Entrance / Exit - use the name on the entrance sign, or use the cross streets, or what makes sense to you.)
Define Type:
-Entrance Only
-Exit Only
-Entrance & Exit
- Define Accessibility (COMING SOON!!!) - you will have the ability to define if the entrance is accessible (elevator, ramp) or non-accessible (stairs, escalator)
Walking Time -
-The walking times will be based on the Station size that you set. But you can edit them per entrance and exit in order to have exact walking times for each entrance.
-Please note that if you change the station size after adding entrances - the walking time for the existing entrances will not change.
- Important note: when adding stations to a stop sequence for a line - always select the relevant stop/platform and not the
How to add Group Station:
- Select Group Station
- Provide Name for your Group Station
- Define Transit Type
- Add Stop/Platforms
Since a group of stations is combining stations that are in reality 1 station, a group station does not have an Exit or Entrances.
- Permissions Layer in the Editor: (available for level 3 and up)
We have added a layer to the Editor which shows permissions. Where different modes of transportation - like walking, biking, buses etc have permissions to travel. The data comes from OSM and is used in Moovit’s trip plan algorithm.
This is very important for adding entrances so that the entrance is located in a place where the rider has permission to walk to. It can also be used to check if a stop is located in a place that has walking permissions.
Each line color represents a different type of permission.
A line can be for multiple types of permissions like walking, bike and bus together.
Please zoom in and check that the line includes the word “walk”.
Important additional information:
- Black dots - represent intersections
- Yellow lines are generated by Moovit and show where a stop is connected to a permission line
- Light Pink - these are stairs - important for when considering accessibility.
- Dark pink pathway -these represent Moovit’s pathways.
