What is a Calendar? 🗓️
In Moovit, a calendar defines the specific days and times when a particular service or schedule is in effect. It allows you to create flexible schedules for lines that don't operate every day or have varying schedules on different days of the week. 🔄
Default Calendars: 📋 Moovit provides several default calendars for common service patterns:
- Daily: The service operates every day of the week. 📅
- Week: The service operates from Monday to Friday (weekdays). 💼
- Saturday: The service operates only on Saturdays. 🏖️
- Sunday: The service operates only on Sundays. ⛪
Creating a New Calendar 🛠️
If the default calendars don't suit your needs, you can create a custom calendar:
- Click "+Add": Locate the "+Add" button in the top right corner of the calendar section. ➕
- Define the Calendar: 📝
- Description: Enter a descriptive name (e.g., "Holidays," "Summer Schedule"). ✍️
- Start Date: Specify when this calendar will begin. 🛫
- End Date: Specify the end date for this calendar. 🏁
- Days of the Week: Select the specific days when this applies. ☑️
- Save: Click "Save" to create the new calendar. 💾
Note: We can’t create more than one calendar with the same name or the same characteristics – the system won’t allow it! 🚫👯
Special Schedules & Calendar Exceptions 📆⚠️
There are situations where a line with a regular schedule needs to operate differently than usual. On such days, we must adjust the habitual schedule by creating a Calendar Exception. ⚡
A Calendar Exception is a feature used to identify days that deviate from a calendar's standard departure pattern. 📌
Example: Imagine Line 402 normally operates Monday to Friday from 5:00 AM to 10:00 PM. However, specifically on January 30, it will not operate. 🛑 Instead of creating a whole new calendar, you can simply create a calendar exception for that day to cancel the departures.
- Go to the Departure Times tab and click on the calendar that you want to add an exception. 🖱️:
- As soon as you click on the schedules, the departure times section will appear, and you will notice a mini-calendar in the right corner. This is where you will create the exception. 🗓️👉
- Navigate on the calendar to find the day you want to cancel the departures. Click on the day. The exception will appear. Click “ok” ✅.
💡 Reminder: Creating a calendar exception will cancel the departures. So if you want this trip to have different departures, create a new calendar for that date.
