What are Stop Interval Times? 🚌💨
The interval time between two bus stops refers to the amount of time it takes for a vehicle to travel from one stop to the next.
You can view these in the Stop Sequence tab. In the example below, the interval time between the first and second stop is 42 seconds.
What are Interval Patterns? 🌈
Interval Patterns are trips with the same sequence of stops but different travel times between them. Factors like traffic conditions 🚦, distance, and official schedules influence these times.
- Example: A trip from A to B might take 5 minutes during rush hour 🚗🚙 but only 3 minutes late at night 🌙.
- In the Editor, each pattern is represented by a different color block. 🟦🟩🟪
- Architect’s Tip: Hover over a color block to see its specific calendar and departure times. In the screenshot below, you can see that this trip pattern (green block) is active for trips that depart on Sunday at 09:10
🔍 How to Check and Compare Intervals
- Enter the 'Stop Sequence' tab. 📑
- Select the interval pattern most similar to the official agency information. 📋
- If a matching pattern doesn't exist: You must create a new one. ➕
- Compare the interval times with the agency’s data and update if needed. ✏️
Note: Often, weekday (Mon-Fri) intervals differ from weekend (Sat-Sun) intervals, even for trips at the same time! 🗓️⚖️
Note: In the picture below, we compare the intervals for the 10:40 departure Sun-Sat to the intervals for 10:40 departure Mon-Fri. (We start with Mon - Fri; sometimes the intervals on Sat-Sun are the same, but we will check it later.)
🛠️ Special Case: Separating Schedules into Different Patterns
Sometimes, you need to "split" a schedule because the travel times change on specific days.
Scenario: You have a 10:40 AM departure every day, but on Sat-Sun, the bus moves faster than on Mon-Fri. The Goal: Keep the Mon-Fri intervals in the current pattern and move the Sat-Sun departure to a new one. 🔄
Who can do this? 👤 This action is available for users at Level 3 or above. 🎖️
🚀 Step 1: How to Add a New Interval Pattern
When adding a pattern, remember two things: the Color 🎨 and the Arrival Time at the last station 🏁.
- Go to the 'Stop Sequence' tab and click '+Add'. ➕
- Go to the 'Departure Times' tab. 🕒
- Add the departure time to the relevant calendars (e.g., one for Mon-Fri and another for Sat-Sun). 📅
- Assign the Pattern: Hover your mouse over the color block next to the departure time and select the correct color for that interval pattern. 🖌️
- Press "OK" and then "Save". 💾
Now you can see on the “stop sequence” tab that a new schedule has been added to the original interval patterns (the pink one) and to the new one (the light blue).
You can also see that the 10:40 departure on the everyday calendar is still in the trip pattern - we need to remove it!
🗑️ Step 2: How to Remove/Clean Up Old Patterns
After creating the new specific patterns, you must remove the "general" one to avoid duplicates.
- In the 'Departure Times' tab, click "Edit Departure Times". ✏️
- Find the old departure (e.g., the "Everyday" 10:40 AM entry) and remove it. ❌
- Now you will see your separated interval patterns, each linked to the correct calendar! ✅
